You can’t buy a new attitude in a store

“I need a new attitude. Can I buy one in a store?” I asked aloud while my partner and I were watching television this week.

“No,” she replied.

Well, it’s not like I expected that I could buy my attitude in the store anyway. But, as life always does, it got me to thinking.

While you can’t buy your attitude in a store, you can find it within yourself. I’ve been feeling down, burned out, etc., for the past week or so. I so wish I could just run into a store an buy a new attitude.

Don’t we all, am I right?

Positive attitude takes work. It takes commitment. It takes honoring when you need a break.

BINGO on the last part of that — honoring when you need a break. Because not one of us can just keep going full-throttle without, at some point, getting tired.

So, we’ve decided to take a couple weeks off from a few things on our plates. Somehow everything feels a bit lighter.

Don’t be afraid to take some time to yourself. Here are a few things I like to do to combat burnout:

  • Take a walk (even a quick one can clear the mind)
  • Read a book (something NOT related to your work)
  • Participate in a hobby. I like to crochet.
  • Take a drive
  • Photography
  • Play with my pets
  • Ask for time off (this is a big one, but not always something people can do easily)
  • Ask for help if needed.

Don’t forget to care for yourself in these crazy times. If you’re not well, nothing you touch will be.

  1. “ If you’re not well, nothing you touch will be.” This is such a good reminder, and one I really needed right around now. Thank you!
