Do away with phone numbers that contain letters!

Can you dial 1-800-PROGRESSIVE? Or any phone number that contains only letters?

Sure you can.

But only if you don’t have a Blackberry.

I was reading a friend’s Facebook status the other day and she was trying to get ahold of Expedia. You can reach Expedia by dialing 1-800-EXPEDIA. Unless, of course, you don’t have a Blackberry.

I own a Blackberry and this is a big problem with corporations and Blackberry owners. And I think it’s time that corporations catch up with the times. We, as Blackberry users, cannot dial your number up unless it indeed contains NUMBERS. And only numbers. I don’t know about anybody else, but I sure don’t have the numbers on the keypad memorized, especially since I don’t use a regular phone anymore (unless I’m at work and I usually don’t encounter this at work).

Even when I did use a phone that has the letters on the keypad, I’ve always found it a source of annoyance. Yes, it makes the phone number easy to remember. But it’s not user friendly and, have I mentioned yet that it unfairly excludes Blackberry owners? Oh yeah, I have. Well, I’m saying it again.

And I’m sure I’m not the only one with this gripe.

So corporations, get with the times. Do away with your letter-only phone numbers. Or at least post what the number behind the letters are.
